Commitment in action

If one word were to describe our overall attitude toward ES&S, it's commitment. We pledge to protect the safety and security of our employees, business partners, customers and markets, as well as the environment in which we, our families, friends and neighbors live and work.

That commitment is reflected in the organizations to which we align ourselves, some of which require accountability and transparency for membership and/or participation. For instance:

	Marathon was the first petroleum company to volunteer for participation in the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® initiative, which previously had targeted improvement in the chemical industry. 	As a participant in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), we have agreed to establish a managed safety and health system at many of our facilities and to on-site assessment and evaluation by a team of OSHA safety and health experts.
	We also are among only 500 members who have demonstrated environmental commitment by signing on with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Environmental Performance Track. NEPT companies go beyond legal requirements to improve the quality of our nation's air, water and land.
